My 20-month-old daughter’s current favorite song is the oft-dreaded “Baby Shark.”
Big hit, largely ’cause it’s comprised of words she already knows.
And because it’s catchy.
But that repetition isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
As you design a session or encounters, it’s a good template to follow, actually. We see a bunch of different sharks pop up in the song, but they’re all sharks. Assemble monsters around a theme or trait that they have in common, and then include variety around that theme, even if it’s only flavor.
Like “baby owlbear” or some such. Cute and cuddly til they try to bite your face off. Kinda like baby sharks, actually.
