Not like your players having free will.
I mean do your players’ characters have last wills and testaments?
It’s a pretty good Session 0 question: “Do you have a will? Who is in charge of executing it?”
If a character is headstrong and hardy, they might not have thought about the possibility of death. A more cautious and careful character, or even a pessimistic one, might have a well-planned estate. Maybe the person they left it with gets greedy or impatient? Opportunities here for plot hooks, too, if you choose.
As a bonus, it gets new players thinking about the possibility of character death. While it’s very much Part of the Game, it can be pretty traumatic if you have no expectation of it.
