In a nod to Black History month, here’s something worth thinking about as you plan your game sessions:
Do the NPCs you present to your players actually reflect your world?
It’s really easy to fall into things we’re comfortable with, especially if you’re trying to come up with voices for characters.
Suddenly, all the guards are Cockney blokes. Or maybe all the Zhentarim sound like Inigo Montoya.
Now I’m not saying playing in a medieval European analogue with very little variation is a bad thing if that’s what you’re intentionally doing. IF that’s what you’re intentionally doing.
But for me, at least, I’d often like my world to be more interesting than that. This is fantasy, after all!
Go ahead and take a peek at your NPC notes. Does the diversity there reflect the actual diversity of the world your players are playing in?
Remember: The world is only what you present to your players. Make it a colorful and fascinating one!
