Occasionally as a DM you’ll have a wild and crazy idea you want to try out on your players.
Seriously. Give it a shot. Doesn’t matter if it’s super off-the-wall.
But talk to your players ahead of time first, unless you’re really confident in your ability to read them.
Simply ask, “Hey folks, I’ve got a weird idea I’d like to try and it might not work but if it does I think it’ll be cool. You down?” Something like that goes a long way.
Occasionally your players will say, “Nah, we’re kind of in a vanilla mood … maybe later?” But more often than not, they’ll say, “LET’S DO IT!”
Strange how much of running a great game comes down to great communication, eh?
