Let me treat you to a conversation via Discord between me and one of my players:
“Do the Lord’s alliance or waterdhavian nobility have spies or
“deniable assets” in the forms of people they send to gather information
or protect their interests?”
- Me: “The Harpers. Also kinda what the Zhentarim want to become in the city. Plus privately employed people.”
- Player: “Aaaaaggghhh
but the harpers suuuuck. So I was leaning towards a spy/something
similar. As the sorc being born to parents who gave him up to be raised
for this purpose.”
- Me: “I mean … nothing saying you can’t invent a private merc organization and call it a day.”
- Player: “Taking that as blessing.”
Will that organization be “canon”?
Will it be cool?
Will the player be way more invested in the campaign ’cause he’s part of an organization he invented?
