My wife’s sitting next to me building a house in the Sims. I don’t understand the Sims. At least not the game part of it … why would I want to play a game where I have to go to work and pee and do chores?
Anyway.
The building part I get. Same with Rimworld or Subnautica or any of those other base-building games. They all appeal to a single trait: people like customizing and building things.
It’s true in D&D too. Think of players who know exactly what their character looks like, or who reflavor their weapons or gear, or who like having a home base of operations.
It really is worth sitting down and mentally going around your table, thinking of what each player enjoys doing. And if you have a customizer, find opportunities for them to customize stuff!
