I never think to use mounted monsters.
An orc riding a warg is kind of a classic fantasy trope, thanks to Tolkien (woot!), but I just never think to use them.
Two reasons you should think about using mounted enemies:
- It’s something different and unusual. New things always grab players’ attentions!
- It adds new tactics into combat. If you add a goblin on a mount, that goblin can disengage as a bonus action, and ride 60 feet away, turn around and come back next turn. That adds a new thing for your players to think about.
Give it a shot tonight – just take any encounter and see if you can add a mount. Let me know how it goes!
