One of the most under-used tables in the DMG is the “Quirks” table on pg. 143. There’s no reason not to use it, really. Who wants a boring old +1 sword? Nobody.
I’m running a short, summer adventure starting this evening, and I’ve already decided that there will be a Hungry Immovable Rod waiting somewhere in a pile of treasure … it’s a regular Immovable Rod, except this one functions only if fresh humanoid blood has been applied to it within the past 24 hours.
Far more interesting and way more fun!
