I’ve been on a RimWorld kick lately. It’s a fantastic game and (under the surface) has a lot of storytelling elements similar to D&D if you look for them.
One of the best parts of the game is its stellar soundtrack. Just like other iconic game soundtracks (Skyrim comes to mind), RimWorld often has its soundtrack match whatever action is going on.
Why not do the same for your game?
It’s not hard to compile a playlist of good combat music, or creepy ambience when you want to set such a mood.
And it nearly always makes things better.
Start with just a few songs. Maybe a 45-minute combat playlist if you’re anticipating a big battle tonight. Start small and build from there.
Now get out there and tell a story (and if you need one to tell, check out my work on DMsGuild)!
